Asian Languages

Asian languages are broadly divided into five regions: Central Asia (includes the countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan), East Asia (China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Taiwan, North Korea, South Korea and Mongolia), Southeast Asia ( Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand), Southern Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) and Western Asia (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Gaza, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Palestine and Yemen).

In countries such as Singapore, there are four official languages: Chinese, Malay, Tamil and English. This means that most official written public notices and signs are quadrilingual.
